Senior Estimator

Location: Novi, MI

Type: Full‑time, Senior Level – Pre‑Construction Team

Position Overview

As a Senior Estimator , you will be a critical part of our client’s Pre‑Construction group, shaping accurate and competitive cost estimates for large scale commercial and industrial projects and complex renovation environments. You will support design build, construction management, and lump sum delivery methods, partnering closely with architects, engineers, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive, detailed cost estimates for commercial, industrial, hospitality, and healthcare projects across multiple delivery methods: Construction Management, Design/Build, and General Contracting.
• Lead budgeting and cost estimating during preconstruction to support feasibility studies, GMP proposals, and bid submission.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project leadership to refine scope, resources, and assumptions.
• Analyze project documents including drawings, specifications, and site conditions for cost risk, value engineering, and cost control strategies.
• Prepare and present estimate deliverables: quantity takeoffs, cost breakdowns, bid summaries, comparisons, and recommendations.
• Mentor junior estimators and support standardization of estimating processes, templates, and tools.
• Maintain accurate cost databases and stay up to date on pricing trends, labor rates, and material costs.
• Assist with contract negotiations and ensure alignment between estimates and final contract documents.
• Attend value engineering sessions and contribute to early coordination on constructability and cost saving opportunities.
• Support the Pre‑Construction team in delivering high-quality, relationship focused service to clients.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• 5+ years of experience in commercial and industrial cost estimating within construction management or general contracting. Brownfield redevelopment experience is a strong plus.
• Proven track record preparing estimates ranging from $10M–$100M+ (or larger).
• Expertise in all project delivery methods: CM, DB, Lump-sum/GMP.
• Proficiency with estimating software: Bluebeam, Hard Dollar, Sage Estimating, Timberline, or similar.
• Strong quantity take off and cost breakdown skills, with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.

Preferred:

• Experience working with repeat clients in sectors like warehouse distribution, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, or office interiors.
• Knowledge of local/regional construction market conditions in Michigan and the broader eastern U.S.
• Experience in ISO certified environments and a client driven culture.
