Job Description

JCC Greater Coney Island seeks a Managing Director. S/he provides strategic and operational leadership for the JCCGCI’s Holocaust Survivor Support Services (HSSS) programs. These programs include Homecare, Transportation, Friendly Visiting, Case Management, Sunday Senior Center, and Socialization services. The Managing Director is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of services, oversight of program performance, compliance with funding and regulatory requirements, and alignment with JCCGCI’s mission. This role involves managing program budgets, supervising senior program staff, and driving continuous quality improvement to ensure the highest standards of service and accountability.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Provide visionary leadership for HSSS programs in alignment with JCCGCI’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement program goals, service models, and operational plans to ensure high-quality, client-centered services.
  • Lead senior program staff, promoting a collaborative and accountable work environment.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for HSSS programs with funders, community partners, and regulatory agencies.

Program Oversight and Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all HSSS program areas to ensure smooth and effective service delivery.
  • Monitor program performance, ensuring compliance with all contractual, funding, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement quality assurance systems and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Evaluate program outcomes and service impact; use data and feedback to inform program enhancements.

Funder Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure full compliance with all funder requirements, including those of the Claims Conference and other public and private funding sources.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to prepare and submit timely, accurate narrative and financial reports.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of contractual obligations, changes in funder regulations, and best practices in service documentation.
  • Coordinate internal audits and site visits, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Work closely with finance, development, and compliance departments to align reporting, billing, and documentation practices with funder expectations.
  • Ensure Claims Conference fundraising/matching requirements are met annually.

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Directly supervise senior program managers and department heads.
  • Support professional development and training for program staff to maintain service excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote staff engagement and retention through coaching, recognition, and support.

Budgeting and Fiscal Management:

  • Partner with the Fiscal Department to Develop and manage annual budgets for all HSSS program components.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure proper financial stewardship of resources.
  • Work with Fiscal staff to prepare financial reports for internal review and funder compliance.

Partnerships and Advocacy:

  • Represent JCCGCI in external meetings, conferences, and advocacy initiatives related to Holocaust Survivor Services.
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and community-based stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
  • 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit, social services, human services or elder care programs, including at least 3 years in a senior management role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing government and/or foundation-funded programs.
  • Familiarity with funders such as the Claims Conference or NYC Department for the Aging a plus.
  • Proven ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple programs with multiple funding sources
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the values of dignity, respect, and empowerment for Holocaust Survivors and older adults.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to identify challenges, design solutions, and implement operational changes.
  • Ability to lead organizational change, manage transitions, and build a culture of resilience.
  • Ability to align decisions with the program’s and organization's mission, values, and long-term goals.
