SUMMARY

The U.S. Center for SafeSport is a non-profit organization focused on ending all forms of abuse in sport. We endeavor to make athlete well-being the centerpiece of the nation’s sports culture through abuse prevention, education, and accountability.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Center is currently seeking Investigator 2s to join the Response & Resolutions team. An Investigator 2 is responsible for conducting fair, thorough, and objective administrative investigations into allegations of misconduct within the Olympic/Paralympic movement.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Manages an average caseload of seventeen (17) cases of the highest severity and complexity addressed by the Center
    • Independently conducts fair, thorough, neutral investigations related to allegations of sexual, physical, and emotional misconduct by doing the following:
    • Interviewing claimants, respondents, and witnesses.
    • Prepare for and record/document interviews; have interviews transcribed and review transcriptions for accuracy.
    • Research, obtain, and review documentary evidence.
    • Review the Code, NGB policies, and analogous community standards in light of alleged misconduct.
    • Routinely review cases for appropriate implementation of Temporary Measures.
    • Drafts various notices, reports, and decision documents, as needed, to include:
    • Comprehensive investigation reports which articulates an objective analysis and assessment of all evidence, including interviews, collected throughout an investigation; issued as written investigative findings.
    • Notices of Allegations, including updated Notices as necessary, and issuance of Temporary Measures.
    • Notices of Decision for Informal Resolutions.
    • Documents thoroughly & contemporaneously in the Case Management System:
    • Updates provided to parties & relevant contact information.
    • Add all communication emails and/or call notes.
    • Add all evidence, including interview recordings.
    • Update case information, such as dates, severity/complexity, etc.
    • Updates involved parties and supervisory Assistant Director regularly.
    • Collaborates with the Center’s Legal team and Response and Resolutions’ Administrative staff on review of investigative work product and issuance of decisions.
    • Develops and maintains functional understanding of all relevant Center policies and procedures, as well as internal investigative practices and protocols.
    • Continually identifies and integrates best practices while conducting administrative investigations into allegations of sexual, physical, and emotional misconduct; stays up to date with current trends in related fields by participating in conferences, workshops, online webinars, reviewing current literature and research, etc.
    • Occasional travel needed, based on individual case needs and assessments with supervisor.
    • Collaborates as needed with other members of the Response & Resolution team regarding management and evaluation of reported incidents.
    • Participates on committees, provides feedback on Center processes, policies, etc.
    • Participates in internal and external trainings.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5 years’ experience conducting trauma-informed sexual misconduct and/or child abuse investigations, as well as experience working with a case management system, particularly a system managing allegations of misconduct
    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the Center’s mission.
    • Understanding of the dynamics of trauma and the cycle of violence, and possible reasons for parties’ reluctance to participate.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills to effectively operate in a diverse environment.
    • Autonomous, thoughtful, and deliberate decision-making skills with the ability to react and appropriately respond to a dynamic investigative environment.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with interruptions.
    • Thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail.

    • Ability to conduct non-adversarial, neutral interviews virtually and in person.
    • Ability to analyze and evaluate evidence to include witness interviews, documents, and digital media.

    • Ability to maintain detailed, accurate notes and draft thorough, complex investigative reports.;
    • Ability to self-motivate and works independently in a remote environment.

    • Demonstrated skill in writing concise, logical, analytical reports to synthesize complex issues.
    • Ability to articulate polices, including the Code, accurately and professionally in standard or adverse situations.

    • Ability to de-escalate parties in emotionally heightened situations.
    • Excellent judgment, including the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
    • Ability to manage and prioritize a diverse investigative caseload involving multiple parties.

    • Ability to coordinate with state, local, and federal agencies.

    • Experience working with children and/or experience conducting sport-related investigations or knowledge of sport related complexities and culture preferred.

WORK REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENT

  • Standard office equipment provided
  • Office environment in multi-story, dog-friendly building
  • Overnight travel up to 30% required, including night and weekend work hours as needed

WORK LOCATION – Denver, CO; or a location deemed suitable by the Center (e.g., near major airport and a state where the Center has established business operations. Current states eligible for remote work: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, MO, MT, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI).


This is a full-time, exempt position. The starting salary range for this position is $81,000 - $90,000, and will be commensurate with background and experience.
