Controller/ Accountant – Waste Recycling / Waste Disposal Industry

Location: Chicago, IL

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong background in the waste recycling or waste disposal industry . The ideal candidate will oversee all accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support strategic business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close
• Prepare and review accurate financial statements (GAAP)
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
• Monitor cash flow, expenses, and financial controls
• Support audits and coordinate with external partners
• Implement and maintain accounting policies and internal controls
• Lead and mentor the accounting team
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Recent 3–5+ years of Controller/Accounting experience in waste recycling or waste disposal industry (required)
• Strong understanding of industry-specific accounting practices
• Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills
• Local to Chicago, IL or nearby states
• Stable work history ( no job hoppers )
