Now Hiring: Program Director – SONYC Afterschool Program (School Year 2025–2026)

$50,000-$56,000 Salary

Program Location: Canarsie, Brooklyn

Do you thrive in dynamic environments where art and education intersect? Purelements: An Evolution in Dance is looking for an experienced Program Director to lead our SONYC afterschool program for middle school students (grades 6–8) in Brooklyn.

Through creative learning, mentorship, and culturally grounded practices, we equip students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Your Role

As Program Director, you’ll be the heartbeat and visionary of your afterschool site—responsible for overseeing daily program operations, leading a dedicated team, and creating a vibrant, enriching space where students feel seen, supported, and inspired. You'll work closely with the school community, families, funders, and Purelements leadership to ensure the program runs smoothly and meaningfully.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Program Operations : Supervise daily afterschool programming, ensuring activities align with student interests, school goals, and Purelements’ mission.
  • Manage & Support Staff : Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to program staff, including Assistant Site Directors, Group Leaders, and Teaching Artists.
  • Foster Relationships : Build strong, collaborative relationships with students, families, school partners, and the community.
  • Ensure Safety & Compliance : Monitor safety procedures, maintain a nurturing environment, and ensure compliance with all DOE, DOH, and DYCD regulations.
  • Oversee Administration : Handle site logistics, staff schedules, materials management, budgeting, and SACC licensing requirements.
  • Evaluate & Report : Track program outcomes and student progress using formal and informal assessments. Prepare and share updates with parents, schools, and funders.
  • Represent the Program : Serve as the primary contact for the school principal and represent Purelements at meetings, community events, and with stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a  Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in youth development, education, or afterschool program management (SONYC experience highly preferred).
  • Strong familiarity with  DYCD protocols and systems (experience with DYCD Connect a plus).
  • Culturally responsive leadership, with a deep appreciation for  Afro-diasporic culture and the communities we serve.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead a team, multitask, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must complete  DOH & DOE fingerprinting , background checks, and become certified in  CPR/First Aid .
  • Responsible for maintaining all  SACC licensing requirements at the assigned site.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If Purelements covers any of your School Age Child Care Credential training or schooling tuition, you must remain in the Program Director role for at least 2 years.
